Today, you don`t have to put your modern art sculptures on a pedestal to be admired because there are plenty of fine wall art sculptures that you can hang on the walls. Usually, these are metal or a mixture of metal and wood and have a contemporary appeal. Wall sculptures are three-dimensional and stick out a bit from the wall adding depth and interest. By this, I mean old doors, wrought iron gates, corbels, porch pieces – anything that you might normally find on the outside of the house can add depth and interest to your inside walls. When it comes to architectural elements, the more wear the piece has and the chippier the paint, the better! This aging and wear give character to the piece and adds interest.

Adding a chair rail or opting for a wainscoting or paneling project, which will require a helper with a few carpentry skills, is still another way to dress up those tired old walls. If your daughter insists that she wants flowers on her walls, one`s initial reaction is that it might be ”too much” and something she would easily tire of. For a parent, they can be used tastefully and not overly expensive so that if her tastes change in a year or two you won`t feel as though you just paid a fortune to have it redone. It`s quick to install and can be played with until you have it just the way you like it.

For a smaller room, it`s best to keep the artwork on your walls smaller so that it appears balanced and doesn`t overwhelm the room. Think about hanging three related prints above your sofa, arranged in a level line straight across. Always use odd numbers of items, such as groups of 3 or 5 when decorating a wall.
