Another fun and easy item to use as wall art that can be found at many yard sales, thrift stores, junkyards, and antique stores are old windows and doors. Finding a vintage window can be an interesting way to add an old-world feel to any room. Using a door on a large wall can add something unexpected to the room. It`s fun to hunt around for cool and interesting doors and windows. Whatever your style, you can find something to make the room your own with decorative wall decor.

You can choose from the embossed look to beautiful mosaic stencils, contemporary styles, art nouveau, and architectural styles just to name a few. Today, you don`t have to put your modern art sculptures on a pedestal to be admired because there are plenty of fine wall art sculptures that you can hang on the walls. Usually, these are metal or a mixture of metal and wood and have a contemporary appeal. Wall sculptures are three-dimensional and stick out a bit from the wall adding depth and interest. Modern, contemporary, eclectic, and zen type decorating themes can benefit from these the most.

In fact, you can buy new items that are made to look like old architectural pieces. My personal favorite is wrought iron pieces that look like old gates or fences. These go with a wide range of decorating themes and look great on your walls.

Look everything over and discard anything that`s not really speaking to you. What kind of space do you have to work with? Some pieces of wall art will be too large for space, or won`t be large enough. The large pieces you`re either going to have to set aside or decide if there`s another place where you can display them. If you`re worried that the piece you`re considering will be too small, and will look funny on the wall, you might want to look for some other bits of wall art that match the first piece in size and feel. If you find the right bits of art, you can use several pieces on the wall to create a series.

The best way to choose this is to look at many different styles and find what style you are drawn to the most. Some of these styles are contemporary art, graphic art, metal art, oil paintings, period pieces, vintage prints (ads and pictures), modern art, historical pieces, watercolors, etc.. etc… Going through the many examples of art styles is a large task but you will quickly decide upon the styles you are drawn to and the ones you are not.

Modern wall art is at your beck and call! Check out the many pieces of artwork you can use, like abstract wall art, which is excellent for bringing color and imagination to your walls. Or, explore wall statues and quilts. Go art deco and put up a print of Marilyn Monroe, or if you need more lighting, consider putting up some decorative wall sconces.
