Warmer colors also work well if you have a very spacious room and you want the perception to be that things are more inward or – cozy. If your room is somewhat small, try cool colors like shades of blues, purples, greens, or even grey. These hues will give the perception that a room is larger than it really is.

Remember the entire space around the art piece becomes an extension of it. Lighting, the empty space around it, and how far or near it is to the furniture all interact with your art piece and should be measured in totality before deciding on the piece. The bottom line is that a bit more expensive piece may not necessarily be the right one and a smaller piece may be much more suitable.

This can be especially true with children`s rooms and nurseries. You don`t want them to look like everyone else`s, but it seems like every theme and design has been used. One new way of decorating is to use wall decals, these decals are more or less giant stickers that you can place on your wall. Many of them can be removed and reused elsewhere, too, so they allow you to create a dynamic room theme that can easily be changed around.

Whether you love trees that are rickety and a little creepy or lush and growing, you can find a tree wall decal that matches your tastes. Trees in a simple black silhouette are a very nice touch to add to a painted wall, particularly one that has been painted a dusky purple or a sunset orange. A lovely tree wall decal adds a touch of nature to your home and it is appropriate for your bedroom, your living room, or even your kitchen. By this, I mean old doors, wrought iron gates, corbels, porch pieces – anything that you might normally find on the outside of the house can add depth and interest to your inside walls. When it comes to architectural elements, the more wear the piece has and the chippier the paint, the better! This aging and wear give character to the piece and adds interest.

Some of these murals can take up the whole wall and have a realistic look to them. I love the ones that look like french doors opening up into a beautiful garden or view of the sea.
